Eşitlik ve benzerlik kalıpları
İki şeyi karşılaştırırken her zaman biri öbüründen büyük olmaz. «Onun kadar uzun», «onunla aynı», «ondan farklı» ya da «onun gibi» demek için bu kalıpları kullanırız.

as + sıfat + as · not as … as ve -er than bağı
İki şey bir özellik bakımından eşitse sıfatı iki as arasına koyarız: as tall as, as expensive as, as fast as. Aradaki sıfat yalın kalır; -er ya da more almaz.
Olumsuzda not as … as (veya not so … as) «o kadar … değil» demektir ve A2’de öğrendiğimiz -er / more … than yapısının tam tersidir: Tea isn’t as strong as coffee = Coffee is stronger than tea.
Kısayolİki cümle aynı gerçeği iki ayrı uçtan söyler; sınavlarda yeniden yazma (rewrite) sorusu olarak sık çıkar.
The cat is as tall as the green backpack.
Kedi yeşil sırt çantası kadar uzun.
The kitten isn’t as big as the adult cat.
Yavru kedi büyük kedi kadar iri değil.
This small box isn’t as comfortable as the cat’s basket.

the same as · different from · like mı, as mi?
«… ile aynı» derken the same as (the same age as), «… -den farklı» derken different from kullanılır.
Türkçede «gibi / olarak» ayrımı önemlidir: like benzetme yapar ve arkasına isim alır (like a tiger = kaplan gibi); as ise gerçek görevi ya da işlevi söyler (work as a doctor = doktor olarak çalışmak).

like vs. as — like «gibi» (benzetme: like a child), as «olarak» (görev/işlev: as a waitress).
Testten önce bunları bil
- as + sıfat + as · not as … as ve -er than bağı
En sık hata: as tall than ya da as taller as demek. than yalnız -er / more ile gelir; as … as kalıbında iki taraf da as olur ve ortadaki sıfat ek almaz: as tall as, as expensive as.
- as + sıfat + as · not as … as ve -er than bağı
Miktar karşılaştırırken isim sayılabiliyorsa as many books as, sayılamıyorsa as much water as seçilir.

En sık hata: Türkçede «seninki gibi aynı» düşünüldüğü için the same like mine denir. Doğrusu her zaman the same as mine olur.

She works as a teacher = O gerçekten öğretmendir (öğretmen olarak çalışır). She talks like a teacher = Öğretmen değildir ama öğretmen gibi konuşur.
