in order to / so as to · olumsuz amaç: in order not to / so as not to

Olumlu bir amacı anlatırken to + V1, in order to + V1 ve so as to + V1 aynı anlama gelir; son ikisi daha resmî ve vurguludur. Amaç olumsuzsa («geç kalmamak için», «kuşları ürkütmemek için») tek başına not to yerine in order not to + V1 ya da so as not to + V1 tercih edilir.

Sıraya dikkat et: not her zaman to kelimesinden önce durur (in order not to forget). Fiilin önüne asla for gelmez; for yalnızca isimlerle (for a walk, for lunch) kullanılır.

KısayolArkasından fiil geliyorsa to ailesi; isim geliyorsa for kullanılır.

so that + özne + can / could / will / would («… -sın / -ebilsin diye»)

to / in order to / so as to kalıplarında iki işin öznesi aynıdır ve arkalarından doğrudan fiil gelir. Ama arkasından özneli tam bir cümle kuracaksak veya iki kısmın özneleri farklıysa («kedi dışarı çıkabilsin diye pencereyi açtım») so that bağlacı kullanılır.

Zaman uyumu: Ana cümle şimdiki / geniş / gelecek zamandaysa so that içinde can / will / won’t; ana cümle geçmiş zamandaysa could / would / wouldn’t gelir.

KısayolBoşluktan sonra doğrudan yalın fiil mi yoksa özne + can/could/would mu geldiğine bak.

İpuçları

Testten önce bunları bil

  1. in order to / so as to · olumsuz amaç: in order not to / so as not to

En sık hata: Olumsuz amaçta not kelimesini sona atıp in order to not miss veya so as to not be late demek! Doğru sıra her zaman in order not to + V1 ve so as not to + V1 biçimindedir.

  2. in order to / so as to · olumsuz amaç: in order not to / so as not to

İkinci sık hata: I went to the bank for to talk to the manager. İngilizcede for to + fiil diye bir yapı yoktur; fiil varsa to talk / in order to talk, isim varsa for a meeting denir.

  3. so that + özne + can / could / will / would («… -sın / -ebilsin diye»)

En sık hata: in order to ile so that kalıplarını birbirine karıştırıp I left early in order to I wouldn’t miss the train ya da so that to catch the train demek! Özneli tam cümle önünde yalnız so that, yalın fiil önünde ise to / in order to / so as to durur.

  4. so that + özne + can / could / will / would («… -sın / -ebilsin diye»)

Ana cümle geçmiş zamandaysa (left, opened, gave) so that kısmında can / will değil, geçmiş uyumlu could / would / wouldn’t seçilir.
