Genel, belirli ve özel artikel kalıpları
A1’de a / an kuralını öğrenmiştik. B2 düzeyinde ise asıl ustalık, bir ismin önüne ne zaman the koyacağımızı, ne zaman hiçbir şey koymayacağımızı (Ø) ayırt etmektir.
| İngilizce | Türkçe |
|---|---|
| Life is short. | Hayat kısadır. (genel soyut kavram → the YOK) |
| play the piano | piyano çalmak (müzik aletleri → the alır) |
| play football | futbol oynamak (sporlar → artikel almaz) |
| have breakfast | kahvaltı yapmak (öğünler → artikel almaz) |
| the UK / the USA | Birleşik Krallık / ABD (birleşik/çoğul ülkeler → the alır) |
| the Netherlands | Hollanda (çoğul ülke adı → the alır) |
| go to school | okula gitmek (öğrenci olarak, ders için) |
| go to the school | okula (okul binasına) gitmek (veli/ziyaretçi olarak) |
a / an (ilk söz, meslek) ↔ the (belirli, tek, çalgı) ↔ Ø (genel)
En önemli B2 kuralı: Bir şeyden genel anlamda bahsederken çoğul isimler (Cats) ve sayılamayan / soyut isimler (music, life, water, advice) hiç artikel almaz (Ø)!
KısayolTürkçedeki «-ı / -i» belirtme eki sizi yanıltmasın: «Müziği severim» genel bir cümledir ve İngilizcede the almaz!

zero article (Ø) — Artikelsiz kullanım. Genel anlamdaki çoğul ve sayılamayan isimlerin önüne a/an veya the gelmemesi.
Özel kurallar: Öğün, dil, ülkeler (Turkey ↔ the UK) ve go to school ↔ the school
Öğünler (breakfast, lunch, dinner), diller (English, Turkish), sporlar (football, basketball) ve tek kelimelik şehir/ülke adları (Ankara, Turkey, Italy) artikel almaz. Ancak içinde United, Kingdom, Republic geçen veya çoğul olan ülkeler the alır: the UK, the USA, the Netherlands.
İnce anlam farkı (school, hospital, bed, work, home): Bu yerlere asıl kuruluş amacıyla (ders görmek, tedavi olmak, uyumak için) gidiyorsak artikelsiz (go to school, in hospital, in bed); yalnızca binaya / ziyaretçi olarak gidiyorsak the ile (go to the school) kullanılır.

|---|---|---|

| Öğün ve Dil | have lunch · speak English | The lunch we had yesterday was great. |
| Kurum / Bina | go to school / bed / work (amaç) | go to the school (ziyaretçi olarak bina) |
institutional use (school, hospital, bed) — Okul, hastane, yatak gibi isimlerin bina olarak değil, asıl işlevleriyle kullanıldığında artikel almaması.
Testten önce bunları bil
- a / an (ilk söz, meslek) ↔ the (belirli, tek, çalgı) ↔ Ø (genel)
En sık hata: Türkçede «Hayat güzeldir» veya «Müziği seviyorum» dediğimiz için The life is beautiful veya I love the music demek! Genel konuşurken the kesinlikle konmaz: Life is beautiful · I love music.
- a / an (ilk söz, meslek) ↔ the (belirli, tek, çalgı) ↔ Ø (genel)
İkinci sık hata: She is doctor demek. Tekil mesleklerde a / an şarttır: She is a doctor.
- Özel kurallar: Öğün, dil, ülkeler (Turkey ↔ the UK) ve go to school ↔ the school
En sık hata: He lives in USA veya tam tersi He lives in the Turkey demek! Tek kelimelik ülkeler the almaz (in Turkey); kısaltmalı/birleşik ve çoğul ülkeler the alır (in the USA, in the UK, in the Netherlands).
