Şart ve sonuç kelimeleri
Türkçedeki «-se / -sa» şart eki İngilizcede if ile kurulur. Anlatılan şey her zaman geçerli bir kural mı, yoksa gelecekteki olası bir durum mu olduğuna göre ana cümlenin zamanı değişir.

Sıfır Şart (genel gerçek) ve Birinci Şart (gelecek olasılık)
Her zaman geçerli doğa yasalarında ve alışkanlıklarda (zero conditional) iki taraf da geniş zaman olur: If you heat ice, it melts. Gelecekteki olası bir durumu anlatırken (first conditional) if tarafı yine geniş zaman, sonuç tarafı will + V1 olur.
Altın kural: Gelecekten bahsedilse bile if cümlesinin içinde will kullanılmaz (If it rains, If it will rain değil).

zero conditional — Her zaman doğru olan genel gerçekleri ve doğa kurallarını anlatan şart cümlesi (If + V1, V1).
first conditional — Gelecekte gerçekleşmesi olası bir şartı ve sonucunu anlatan cümle (If + V1, will + V1).
unless (= if … not) ve if ↔ when farkı
unless «… -medikçe / eğer … -mezse» demektir ve if … not yerine geçer. Kendi anlamı olumsuz olduğu için unless arkasından olumlu fiil gelir: Unless you hurry = If you don’t hurry.
if ↔ when farkı: Olup olmayacağı belirsiz («belki») durumlarda if; olacağı kesin («olduğu zaman») durumlarda when seçilir. when sonrasında da will kullanılmaz!
KısayolÜçünün de arkasından gelecek için geniş zaman gelir; will gelmez.
What will you do if the shop is closed? — I’ll come back tomorrow morning.
Will you text me when you arrive? — Yes, I’ll text you as soon as I get there.
Unless the cat hurries, it will miss the train.
Kedi acele etmezse treni kaçıracak (= If the cat doesn’t hurry).
When the bakery opens, the cat will go inside.
Fırın açılınca kedi içeri girecek (açılacağı kesin → when).
We’ll go for a walk in the park unless it rains.

En sık hata: If it will rain tomorrow, we will stay at home. İngilizcede if yan cümlesi geleceği anlatsa bile geniş zamanda kalır: If it rains tomorrow, we’ll stay at home.

Sonuç cümlesinde will yerine can, should ya da emir kipi de gelebilir: If you finish early, you can go home.

En sık hata: Unless you don’t hurry, we’ll miss the bus. unless zaten olumsuzdur; yanına don’t / doesn’t konmaz. Doğrusu: Unless you hurry, we’ll miss the bus.

When I will arrive, I’ll call you yanlıştır. Zaman bağlaçlarından (when, before, after, as soon as) sonra da gelecek için geniş zaman kullanılır: When I arrive, I’ll call you.
