«Yapacaktım ama…» ve geçmişte gelecek kalıpları
Geçmişteki bir andan o anın geleceğine bakarken («seni arayacaktım ama unuttum», «geleceğini biliyordum») İngilizcede gelecek zaman kalıpları bir adım geçmişe çekilir (am/is/are going to → was/were going to ve will → would).
| İngilizce | Türkçe |
|---|---|
| was going to | … -ecekti / -acaktım (planlandı ama olmadı — I / he / she / it) |
| were going to | … -ecektiniz / -acaktık (planlandı ama olmadı — we / you / they) |
| wasn’t / weren’t going to | … -meyecekti / -mayacaktık (vazgeçilen olumsuz niyet) |
| would | … -ecekti / -acağını (knew, thought, promised arkasından) |
| wouldn’t | … -meyecekti / -mayacağını |
| I was going to …, but … | … yapacaktım ama … (gerçekleşmeyen niyet kalıbı) |
| I knew (that) … would | … olacağını biliyordum |
| change one’s mind | fikrini değiştirmek, vazgeçmek |
Gerçekleşmeyen planlar: was / were going to + yalın fiil
A2’de şu anki planlarımız için am / is / are going to kullandığımızı öğrenmiştik. Yardımcı fiili geçmişe çekip was / were going to + yalın fiil yaptığımızda ise Türkçedeki «yapacaktım, gidecektik, alacaktı» anlamını elde ederiz.
Bu kalıp özellikle geçmişte niyet edilen, planlanan ama son anda çıkan bir engel yüzünden gerçekleşmeyen eylemleri anlatmak için but ile birlikte kullanılır: I was going to call you, but I forgot. (Seni arayacaktım ama unuttum = aramadım!).
Kısayolwas / were going to cümlesinde eylem neredeyse hiçbir zaman gerçekleşmemiştir.

| Zaman | Yapı | Örnek ve anlamı |
|---|---|---|
| Şimdiki plan (A2) | am / is / are going to + V1 | I am going to call Ece tonight. (Bu akşam Ece’yi arayacağım — planım bu.) |
| Geçmişteki plan (B2) | was / were going to + V1 | I was going to call Ece, but my phone died. (Ece’yi arayacaktım ama şarjım bitti — arayamadım.) |
| Geçmiş soru | Was / Were + özne + going to + V1? | Were you going to tell me the truth? (Bana gerçeği söyleyecek miydin?) |
unfulfilled intention — Geçmişte yapılması planlanan ancak bir engel nedeniyle gerçekleşmeyen niyet (was / were going to + V1).
Geçmişten bakınca gelecek: would / wouldn’t + yalın fiil
B1’de dolaylı anlatımda said / told arkasından will kipinin would olduğunu öğrenmiştik. Aynı kural geçmişteki bir düşünceyi, tahmini, sözü veya beklentiyi anlatan knew, thought, hoped, promised, was sure, believed fiillerinden sonra da geçerlidir.
was going to ↔ would nüansı: Önceden yapılmış somut bir niyet/plan (veya yarım kalan bir iş) anlatılıyorsa was/were going to; geçmişteki bir tahmin, söz veya beklenti (I knew…, She promised…) anlatılıyorsa would / wouldn’t + V1 tercih edilir.
KısayolKısa biçimler: I would = I’d · he would = he’d · she would = she’d · they would = they’d · would not = wouldn’t · was not = wasn’t · were not = weren’t

Bu küçük kafeyi çok seveceğinden emindim.
| Durum | Kalıp | Doğru örnek ↔ Tipik hata |
|---|---|---|
| Yarım kalan plan / niyet | was / were going to + V1, but… | I was going to bake a cake, but we had no eggs. |
| Geçmiş tahmin / düşünce (thought, knew, was sure) | would / wouldn’t + V1 | I thought the exam would be difficult. (I thought it will be YANLIŞ!) |
| Geçmiş söz / umut (promised, hoped, said) | would / wouldn’t + V1 | She promised she would call us. (promised she will call YANLIŞ!) |
future in the past — Geçmişte gelecek. Geçmişteki bir bakış açısından daha sonraki bir olayı was/were going to veya would ile anlatma.
Testten önce bunları bil
- Gerçekleşmeyen planlar: was / were going to + yalın fiil
En sık hata: Gerçekleşmeyen niyeti anlatırken şimdiki gelecek zaman kullanıp I will call you last night, but I forgot ya da düz geçmiş zaman kullanıp I called you, but I forgot demek! Geçmişteki «yapacaktım ama…» kalıbı her zaman I was going to + V1, but… ile kurulur.
- Gerçekleşmeyen planlar: was / were going to + yalın fiil
Özne uyumuna dikkat et: Tekil öznelerle (I, he, she, it) was going to, çoğul öznelerle (we, you, they) were going to kullanılır.
- Geçmişten bakınca gelecek: would / wouldn’t + yalın fiil
En sık hata: Türkçede «Sınavın kolay olacağını sanıyordum» derken gelecek eki korunduğu için I thought the exam will be easy demek! Ana fiil geçmişte (thought, knew, hoped, promised) olduğu anda will kullanılamaz; mutlaka would be olur.
