İleri karşılaştırma ve derece kalıpları
B1’de as … as eşitliğini, B2’de ise much / a bit + -er yapısını öğrenmiştik. C1 düzeyinde farkın kaç kat olduğunu, iki şeyin birbirinin yanına bile yaklaşamadığını ve akademik dilde farkın önemli mi yoksa çok küçük mü olduğunu anlatan kalıplara geçiyoruz.

Tam eşitlik, katlar ve uçurum: just as … as · twice as … as · nowhere near / not nearly as … as
İki şeyin tam olarak aynı ölçüde olduğunu vurgulamak için as … as kalıbının başına just eklenir (just as tall as). Bir şeyin ötekinin iki veya üç katı olduğunu anlatırken ise standart yazı dilinde -er than değil, twice / three times as + yalın sıfat + as kalıbı kullanılır (twice as big as).
İki şey arasında devasa bir fark olduğunu olumsuz taraftan söylemek için konuşma dilinde nowhere near as … as, resmî dilde ise not nearly as … as («… kadar olmaktan çok uzak») seçilir.
Kısayoltwice / three times kalıplarında iki as arasındaki sıfat her zaman yalın hâldedir (big, expensive).
Was the return train ticket expensive? — No, it was <b>nowhere near as expensive as</b> the plane ticket.
Is the new library larger than the old one? — Yes! The new building is <b>twice as large as</b> the old one.
Sitting upright, the cat is just as tall as the green backpack.

by far the + en üstünlük · considerably / marginally + -er · no + karşılaştırma
Bir seçeneğin diğerlerinden «açık ara en …» olduğunu vurgulamak için en üstünlük (superlative: the -est / the most) yapısının önüne by far getirilir: by far the best, by far the most useful. Yalın karşılaştırma önünde by far better KULLANILMAZ.
Resmî ve akademik yazıda B2’deki gündelik much / a lot yerine considerably veya significantly («önemli ölçüde daha …»); gündelik a bit yerine ise marginally («çok az bir farkla daha …») seçilir. no + karşılaştırma (no better than, no easier than) ise «hiç daha iyi/kolay değil» anlamına gelir.

Which of the three hotels should we book for the conference? — The Grand Hotel is <b>by far the best</b> option, and it is <b>no more expensive than</b> the others.

En sık hata: Türkçedeki «iki kat daha büyük» ifadesini birebir çevirip sınav ve yazı dilinde two times bigger than yazmak! İngilizcede «iki kez / iki kat» two times değil twice ile söylenir ve as … as kalıbına girer: twice as big as.
- Tam eşitlik, katlar ve uçurum: just as … as · twice as … as · nowhere near / not nearly as … as
not nearly ve nowhere near kalıpları -er than ile değil, her zaman as … as ile kullanılır (nowhere near as cold as).

En sık iki hata: the ve en üstünlük eki olmadan by far better demek ve karşılaştırma sıfatının önüne very koymak (very better)! Doğrusu en üstünlükle by far the best, karşılaştırmayla ise far better / significantly better biçimindedir.

no better than kalıbı not any better than ile aynı anlamdadır ama daha vurgulu ve resmîdir: His new excuse was no better than his old one.
