mich. sich anmelden is a reflexive verb, and in the first person singular the reflexive pronoun becomes mich. sich only stays in the infinitive and the third person.

Which document signed by your landlord is requested at the Bürgeramt?

You moved to a different home in the same city. What is the procedure called?

Ummeldung. That is what a change of address within a city is called. An Abmeldung closes the registration completely and is mainly needed when you leave the country.

What do you write in the Staatsangehörigkeit field of the form?

türkisch. Staatsangehörigkeit is nationality. Istanbul goes in the Geburtsort field, and ledig in the Familienstand field.

What does Geburtsname mean?

surname at birth. It is asked for people whose surname changed on marriage; if it didn’t, the field stays empty. The place of birth is the Geburtsort, and a middle name appears as zweiter Vorname.

What is the legal deadline for the Anmeldung?

The Anmeldung is compulsory within 14 days of moving. A delay can turn into a fine; if no appointment is available, even the record of your appointment request helps.

What is the document you receive when the procedure is finished called?

die Anmeldebestätigung — the printout showing the registration is done (officially Meldebestätigung). Bank accounts, contracts and many official matters ask for it; don’t lose it. The Meldebescheinigung is a separate document issued on request, usually for a fee.

What is the procedure called when you leave Germany for good (move abroad)?

    Moving within a city means an Ummeldung.

    A move inside the same municipality is an Ummeldung: an address update, not a new registration.
