so ve such kalıpları
Türkçede «hava o kadar güzel» de desek «öyle güzel bir gün» de desek aynı kelimeleri kullanırız. İngilizcede arkadan yalnız sıfat/zarf geliyorsa so, sonunda bir isim varsa such seçilir.

so mu, such mı? Arkadaki isme bak
Seçim kuralı çok nettir: kelimenin sonunda bir isim yoksa so gelir (so cold, so fast). Sonunda bir isim varsa such gelir (such a cold day).
İsim tekil ve sayılabilir ise such arkasından mutlaka a / an alır (such a good book). İsim çoğul (people, shoes) ya da sayılamayan (weather, music, advice) ise a / an konmaz: such bad weather.
Yalnız sıfat mı, sıfat + isim mi?

En sık hata: so a nice day ya da such nice day demek. Tekil sayılabilir bir isim (day, book, car) varsa kalıp her zaman such a / an + sıfat + isim olur: such a nice day.
Dikkat: weather (hava durumu), news (haber), information (bilgi) ve traffic (trafik) sayılamaz; yanlarına asla a gelmez: such good news, such heavy traffic.

Aynı cümleyi isimsiz kurarsan so, sonuna isim eklersen such olur.

Sonuç cümlesi: so … that · such … that · so much / so many
«O kadar yorgundu ki uyuyakaldı» gibi bir sonuç bağlarken iki kalıbın arkasına that getiririz: so tired that… veya such a tiring day that… (Günlük konuşmada that sıkça düşer.)
Miktar vurgularken much ve many önüne such değil, her zaman so gelir: so much (sayılamayan) ve so many (sayılabilen çoğul).
- Why did you leave the party so early? – There were <b>so many people</b> that we couldn’t find a chair.
- Did you enjoy the book? – Yes! It was <b>such a good book that</b> I finished it in two days.

En sık hata: arkasında isim var diye such many people ya da such much food demek. much ve many yalnızca so ile eşleşir: so many people, so much food.
A2’de öğrendiğimiz too ile karıştırma: too hot «gereğinden fazla, içilemeyecek kadar sıcak» (şikâyet) demektir; so hot ise «çok sıcak» vurgusudur ve arkasına that cümlesi alabilir.
